Terms of service

Last updated 26 October 2026

Agreement

These terms apply when you add VoidSentry ("the bot") to a Discord server or use its commands. If you add the bot to a server, you confirm that you are allowed to manage that server and that you agree to these terms for it. If you do not agree, do not use the bot.

The bot's source code is open source under the MIT license. These terms apply to the bot we host, not to copies you run yourself.

What VoidSentry does

VoidSentry watches the trap channels that a server's administrators set up. When someone writes in a trap channel, the bot bans them automatically and immediately, with no further warning, and deletes their recent messages. Administrators and roles that the server has exempted are never banned.

Because the bot acts instantly and automatically, a trap channel must always be clearly marked, and nobody should ever need to write in one.

Server administrators

If you set up VoidSentry on a server, you are responsible for how it is used there. In particular, you agree to:

  • keep the warning that /setup-trap posts in each trap channel, or replace it with an equally clear one,
  • not place trap channels where members have a normal reason to write,
  • exempt moderator and staff roles that might write in a trap by mistake,
  • test a new setup with dry-run mode before you rely on it,
  • review bans and use /unban to reverse mistakes,
  • follow Discord's Terms of Service, Community Guidelines and Developer Policy,
  • tell your members about the bot's data use where the law requires it, for example by linking our privacy policy.

Acceptable use

You must not use the bot to harass or unfairly ban people, trick members into writing in a trap, or break the law or Discord's rules. You must not try to disrupt the bot or its hosting, to get around its permission checks, or to read data about servers you do not manage.

Bans and appeals

Bans are carried out on the instructions of the server's own settings and are the responsibility of that server's administrators. We cannot lift a ban on your behalf. If you were banned and think it was a mistake, contact the server's administrators. If you want the bot's record of your ban deleted, see the privacy policy.

The bot cannot catch every self-bot or scam account, and it may, rarely, act on an account that should not have been banned. It is a layer of protection, not a replacement for moderators.

Availability

The bot is provided free of charge. It may go offline, be updated or have features changed or removed at any time. We may refuse service or remove the bot from a server that breaks these terms or Discord's rules.

Warranty and liability

The bot is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for missed or wrongful bans, or for any loss caused by the bot being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law, or liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Ending use

You can stop at any time by removing the bot from your server. When you do, the server's settings are deleted, as described in the privacy policy.

Privacy, changes and law

How the bot handles personal data is explained in the privacy policy.

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the bot after a change, you accept the new terms.

These terms are governed by the law that applies to the bot's operator, without affecting any mandatory consumer rights you have in your own country. Questions can be raised on our GitHub page.
